What’s New in
Maslow 4.1?
The Updates-
Here’s what’s new in Maslow 4.1.
JST Connector Boards -
JST-XH connectors for the wires between the encoder and controller boards are more robust to dust and vibration than the ethernet cables we used originally which has a big impact on reliability. These parts are currently available from our website as a stand alone update also since they make the largest difference of any of the changes available here and didn’t require any of the costly mold required for plastic parts.
Star Drive Screws -
The stainless steel M3 screws that we included in the Maslow 4 kits used a standard hex head and were installed using an allen wrench.
We found that these could strip out especially when combined with loctite. To remedy that we will be switching to star drive M3 bolts which are less prone to stripping.
Enlarged Belt Guards -
To better separate the belt from the drive gears we’ve redesigned the belt guard to be larger and extend all the way out to the edges of the spool. This part has been available as a 3D printed download from our website for a while, but it will now be an injection molded part like the rest of the kit.
Idler Gear Bearings -
To provide smooth, consistent, and maintenance free transmission of power from the motors to the belts, we’ve added bearings to both sides of the idler gear and redesigned the idler gear so that the idler shaft and gear are integrated into a single steel part.
Precision Cut Linear Rods -
The linear rods themselves will remain the same, but the manufacturing technique will change. We will use a CNC lathe to precisely cut the linear rods to the exact correct length ensuring that their length is within tolerances.
Cooling Fan -
We have redesigned the plastic of the cooling fan to allow the cooling fan to be attached with the same length of M3 bolt which is used everywhere else in the kit. It’s a small tweak, but it will make assembly that much easier.
