Cool Projects and Bugs...The Usual

Hello Everyone and Happy Wednesday,

We have a short update for you on bug hunting and some great projects from the forums this week.

Forum Highlights

This week, forums user @Josh_Monroe created a beautiful baltic birch backsplash which is both fun to say and really-really cool looking. He also posted a video showing the process here.

@Mark300Thomas posted some info on his frame build. He opted to use his own original design with aluminum extrusion and laser cut plates. *chef’s kiss*

@stellarsquall had been putting in the work to improve the 3D printed corner brackets to suit his frame. Check out his upgrades here.

Forums user @Gijs made a heart shaped bowl for his wife for their 7th anniversary. Its a lovely gift and it came out beautifully. It’s very cool to see the Malsow4 being used on hardwood in addition to the usual plywood.

@Paul_Smyk has been working on a very fancy work table for his Maslow4 with removable arms and multiple anchor point options. We can’t wait to see it in action.

Last but not least, Anna has been running our firmware tests using a file she made for a hangboard for rock climbing training.

Bug Hunting

We’re still hard at work finding and fixing bugs. We tested the anti-static shop vac hose this week and we found that while it seems to be significantly better than the hose that came with the shop-vac it is not nearly as good as the Festool hose. We have also found that by making changes in the software we can make the machine’s susceptibility to interference from the vacuum dramatically worse, and it stands to reason that if we can make it worse then we can make it better too. Unfortunately we’re still working on that part. So far we’ve just found several ways to make it worse.

It seems that there is a complicated interaction between our encoder reads and FreeRTOS which is handling real time work for FluidNC. We’re making progress and understanding more bit by bit, but it could still take a while to get this one fully tracked down.

Since none of our changes have been improvements this week there’s no firmware update this week, but we did release v0.78.1 last week which was a quick follow up to fix some issues with the initial release.

That's all we have for today. As a parting tip, remember not to run over your power chord with your Maslow, Ask Bar how he knows that’s bad.

Have a good week,

-Anna, Roman, and Bar
