How To Videos and Summer Projects

Happy Wednesday Everyone and Happy 4th of July (almost!),

How To Videos

This past week we have been hard at work making a handful of new Youtube How To videos. These videos are designed to be only a minute or two and walk you through each step of the setup process for the Maslow 4. Hopefully they will be useful for those new to running a CNC machine as well as those who need to jog their memory after not using their Maslow for a bit. We’ve all been there after getting distracted by other projects. We recommend bookmarking the Malsow 4 How To playlist in case you need it later. https://www.youtube.com/@maslowcnc/playlists

How to Change the Bit on the Maslow 4

How to Upload GCode the the Maslow

How to Set the Z Home on the Maslow 4

How to Generate GCode using KrabzCAM

We are going to continue posting more videos to this playlist over the next week or so, including: How to Extend the Belts, How to Set the Z Stop, How to Set the XY Home and Cut, How to Update the Firmware and more. But if there is a video you would like to see, please let us know. In the meantime, most of these topics are covered in our User Guide https://www.maslowcnc.com/user-guide

Forums Highlights

This week we saw some truly excellent projects in the Forums and clearly everyone is filled with the sprit of summer because quite a few involve getting on the water and other leisurely summer fun.

@Frank_Wiebenga made a lake house sign for a cabin. Perfect for summer weekends at the lake!

@James_Presnail used his machine to make tee markers for a golf course. This is one of the first projects we have seen with this iteration of the Maslow to use aluminum instead of wood and it looks beautiful!

@Jer_from_Sublime used their Maslow to cut a very cute cookie company sign. And honestly the sign worked. We had to go get cookies from the bakery near our office today.

@marzsman designed a sled holder to support their Maslow as they attach the belts or change the cutting material. It has all the bells and whistles and can help with Zeroing the Z axis too!

@TravisGood made a neat time lapse video showing the Maslow cutting out a sign. Check it out

Last but not least, @Sintrogers made an absolutely stunning dinghy that breaks up into 4 parts for easy transport. This was made with a machine based on the Maslow 2 model, but it is too gorgeous not to feature.

Firmware Update

This week's update doesn't have any huge changes, just small steps forward. We're still making steady progress, but it feels like the number of urgent bug fixes is going down which is great.

This week's update fixes a couple of issues with the build script which were caused by the big changes in the last update, but those should have no impact on the user experience.

On the UI side we did have some usability fixes this week. I added a bounding box to show roughly where the 4x8 sheet of plywood would fit and I tried to make it fancy and adaptive so that it would respect the machine bounds set in your settings, but there was a bug with how that worked and it tended to float around and not stay centered. This update fixes that.

This update also cleans up some messages which were cluttering up the console making it easier to understand what the machine is communicating.

We're going to be moving to firmware updates every other week from here on out since the number of urgent changes is slowing down a bit and we want more time to test and vet each update.

No need to update your maslow.yaml file this week, no changes there.

That’s all we have today! We are all taking a long weekend because of the 4th, but even if you are not in the US we hope you have an excellent week and get some summer fun in!
