Hangboard Project Video and Forum Highlights
Happy Wednesday Everyone,
This week has been filled with projects and video making, for me at least. Bar is off in the wilderness somewhere so I’m in charge of the update today!!! I’ll show you what I've been working on and also run through some neat posts from the forums.
The Hangboard Project
I’ve been putting together a video on my previous hangboard project. I’m hoping that the video can serve as a demonstration of the workflow involved in running Maslow from the beginning of a project to the end. As you all know, there is a great deal of thought and preparation that has to happen to generate a good GCode file. After all, the machine can only do as it's instructed via code.
For this project, I used Onshape for the SVG, KrabzCAM for the GCode, and of course the Maslow 4. It was also the first time I was able to delve into the pocket feature. KrabsCAM lets you set the percent overlap of the passes to make your pocket, and I went with 75%.
Here is a close up of the result, with the pocket on the left and the profile inside cut, showing the surface of the underlying plywood, on the right. You can see a few tiny ridges, which I will easily sand away. I’m looking forward to some more experiments cutting reliefs with the Maslow in the future.
Forum Highlights
@Frank_Wiebenga is nearing the end of his teardrop camper build, and it sounds like it may be up and running for a trip next week!
@NickyD cut out a lovely letter A after working through a persistent 15 mm error. Excellent work!
@ronlawrence3 designed some shields for the encoders to dustproof them. I would like to test these out myself too.
@rtadlock made some cat coasters for his first cut. They’re purrrrfect!
@David_adams is experimenting with extending his work area by attaching 3D printed arms to the corners of his work bench for the anchor points. They even match the Maslow! Let us know how they turn out.
There is also an ongoing discussion about the best way to set up the user interface. Here are some ideas from @Aggiehouse, @Carson_Barry, and @jwolter. Check out the post here if you would like to weigh in.
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank those in the forums that are helping each other out while Bar is away on a well-deserved break. We have some forum users who are true Maslow savants and I want you to know that you all are appreciated.
Have a good week!
