Forums Highlights:
Some quick forum highlights from this week…
This week Frank_Wiebenga modified the .stl file for the button busher to make it so that it could be printed without support, which is a fantastic improvement.
Sylvain_Dorais did this super cool 3D carving saddle seat which really shows off making a 2.5D shape.
And finally noiseislife shared his first cuts this week which always something that we love to see!
Firmware Update:
Firmware V0.73 comes out this week which adds some exciting improvements.
We’ve noticed that while the new calibration process is generally a big improvement, it has also been resulting in less tension in the belts while cutting. This week we dug into why.
The first thing that we determined was leading to extra tension is the calculation for the z-axis height. The machine adjusts the lengths of the belts as the z-axis moves up and down, but when the machine powers on it assumed that the z-axis was at height zero which is generally unlikely to be true.
V0.73 adds a system to save the z-axis position automatically in non-volitle storage before the machine shuts down and then it loads that position again when the machine turns on meaning that it will always be adjusting the belts to match the machine’s actual position.
The initial z-axis position of zero is set automatically during the calibration process or can be done by pressing the new “Zero Z” button after the z-axis has been lowered all the way down.
Note that you will want to update your maslow.yaml file also this week because the z-axis offsets have been updated.
One other change that we found improved the belt tension with the new calibration process is to increase the pulling force when taking measurements from 1300 to 1500, that change is also in the maslow.yaml file.
That’s it for this week, we have got to get back to packing and shipping.
Have a great week everyone!
