Another exciting week, updates, projects

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

We’ve got lots of exciting stuff to cover this week, but first of all a bit of housekeeping. If you are reading this on our weekly kickstarter update and you would like to keep getting these emails, we want to push you to sign up for our weekly update through our website. You can do that here.

At this point all of our Kickstarter backers have their machines and we would like to switch the focus over to our website. Also there is no way to unsubscribe from the Kickstarter updates and for those of you who don’t want to be getting these emails forever that’s a problem.

If you are enjoying the weekly updates, hop on over our website and sign up there. It’s easy and free and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Firmware changes this week:

This week's update v0.75 does some preliminary work to make the encoder system more robust to EMF (Electromagnetic Fields) which can cause position errors while cutting. It also improves the user experience in several commonly asked about ways.

The encoder system has been made more robust by reducing the clock speed when talking to the encoders making the signal more strong and clear. The system is also now able to handle individual encoder read failures without triggering an error message. Repeated failures will still trigger a message, and if you still have issues following this update we would love to hear about them.

Two common user questions are also improved in this update. If the maslow.yaml file becomes corrupted the z-axis will not move. This update includes an excellent improvement from @md8n which will eliminate one possible path to corrupting that file, reducing the chances of that happening. The second update from @ronlawrence3 catches the case where the belts need to be retracted and extended before the machine will move. Previously in this state the machine would indicate that it was moving while not actually moving. Now it will provide a clear warning popup and message about what is wrong.

As always you can find the latest version to download here.

Great update everyone!

Forums highlights:

We had a lot of exciting posts in the forums this week. Here were a few of our favorites.

@md8n made this fantastic stand to hold his Maslow while working on it and shared the files.

@liubai made this awesome adapter to allow you to use your Maslow4 with many different router options and also generously posted the files.

@Carson_Barry made this very clever holder to make it easier to attach his Maslow

@Line_King validated the work that we’ve been doing to make the setup process easier and easier each week by setting a new speed record. He also tested cutting coroplast which is a material that I’ve been wanting to play around with.

@smarcus3 did some testing with small text and got some great results.

On the other end of the spectrum @bthalanski cut a giant grid into his spoil board which looks awesome.

Up next @smarcus3 and @marzsman have two competing (collaboratively) but very similar plans to add a pen to allow Maslow4 to be a plotter as well.

And finally @boxomatic has a very excellent breakdown on his process of getting up and cutting on a HUGE project including some very very cool dust collection improvements.

As always every post in the forums is fantastic and it’s been a great week of helping folks, watching folks help each other and bouncing around ideas for how to keep making things better. Shout out to everyone who is active and everyone who is lurking and following along.

More replacement parts are coming to the shop soon!

As always we’ve got a million things going on in the background, but one of the more active ones at the moment is that we are working on bringing all of the parts of Maslow4 to the website individually so that you can buy any piece as a spare or replacement part so keep an eye out for that in the not too distant future!

Have a great week everyone!

-Bar, Roman, and Anna
