Another week, another step forward
Happy Wednesday Everyone!
This week we've been working on a number of things, including some bug fixes in the weekly firmware update and updating our shop with replacement parts. The forums have also been busy!
Firmware Updates
This week's firmware update has a couple of excellent improvements.
First from @md8n we have a fantastic improvement which improves the way the machine handles the default configuration following a crash. Now the default configuration is correct for the stepper motors which will prevent the issue where they get hot and won't spin until the machine is restarted following a crash. He also caught a typo in the maslow.yaml file.
This update also has an excellent contribution from @ronlawrence3 which enables the setting option to turn off the heartbeat which is useful when uploading large gcode files which could cause it to time out while uploading.
And finally this week's update partially fixes a bug where if the machine loses connection to the WiFi while it is running a cut it the firmware will crash and the machine will continue heading in the direction it was moving when the crash occurred. This was happening for two reasons, first FluidNC is crashing when connection to the wifi network is lost while cutting, and second since we have servo motors they will continue rotating when not given a command to stop. This update addresses the latter issue by stopping the servos when the firmware crashes, but we're still digging into why the actual crash is occurring in the first place. That bug seems to be deep in the wifi stack. Hopefully we'll have a fix for that next week.
It feels like progress that we’re mostly addressing bugs that occur when cutting things rather than bugs that occur during the calibration process.
Highlights from the Forums
Forums User @boxomatic has two Maslow4s up and running at the same time! Check out this video
Forums User @GESDesigns was able to carve a beautiful sign
@Carson_Barry cut a 3D topographic relief to test his set up
Similarly @marzman was able to draw with a marker using one of the pen holder designs we showed off a couple weeks back.
Forum user @James is experimenting with modifying the Maslow4 to draw with a pencil, take a look.
Forums user @MattD was able to set up his Maslow4 entirely on his workbench which made us jealous of what a great workbench he has.
Forums user @md8n designed a pretty slick Maslow4 stand two weeks ago and then forums user @tryon modified it so that it could be made from wood using the Maslow. Very slick!
The Shop
We also updated our shop with spare parts! Check it out here.
That’s all we have for this week! We appreciate hearing from you so keep posting in the forums, we would love to see what you are working on.
